TOWN BOARD Meeting Notes
Marion Municipal Building
Monday, August 21, 2023
A Special Town Board meeting of the Town of Marion, Wayne County, NY was held on Monday, August 21, 2023 at the Marion Municipal Room.
Supervisor Bender called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm with a roll call done by Heidi Levan, Clerk of the Board.
PRESENT: LaVerne Bliek, Councilman
Ronald Lonneville, Councilman
Julie Herman, Councilwoman
Michael Cramer, Councilman
Jolene Bender, Supervisor
Absent:
IN PERSON ATTENDANCE: Bruce Ameele ; James Miller ; Lee DeRidder ; Chuck DeRidder ; Summer Johnson.
Supervisor Bender asked everyone to stand and give the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Town Board starting the meeting with a discussion regarding the current Marion Cemetery which is owned and operated by the Marion Cemetery Association. The Marion Cemetery Association has given the Town of Marion a letter stating that the cemetery will be conveyed to the Town of Marion on January 1, 2024. The Marion Town Board discussed the following:
- Pricing of plots (deeds).
- Pricing on opening/closing of burials, as well as a price difference for weekends.
- Pricing on Foundation work for monuments.
- Hours of operations.
- Need for new signage.
- New cemetery software program.
- Mowing and all that is needed for mowing such as new equipment, parts, and labor.
The Town Board would like to move forward with a cemetery software program.
Councilman Lonneville suggested that $5,000 a year be added to a reserve fund to purchase a new mower.
Town Clerk, Heidi Levan provided each member of the Town Board with a 2024 Tentative Budget. The Town Board will be reviewing this budget and making changes at the next Town Board Meeting.
With no further business, on a motion by Councilwoman Herman and seconded by Councilman Cramer, Supervisor Bender closed the meeting at 7:30pm.
